DPSS ePolicy

GAIN

550 Participants Assigned to Orientation Within 12-Month Period

Release Date
02/06/2018

Section Heading

Purpose

To convert existing policy to new writing style

Policy

Participants who have completed the Orientation activity (day one of Job Club) within the last 12 months are not required to complete Orientation again.

Background

If a participant completed Orientation within the last 12 months, the participant does not need to participate again and can be referred directly to Job Club or Vocational Assessment, whichever applies. The GAIN Services Worker (GSW)/Contracted Case Manager (CCM) will need to review the LEADER Replacement System (LRS) Customer Activities List to verify Orientation/Job Club has been completed within the last 12 months.

Definitions

Terms and Descriptions

ORI

CalSAWS code for participants assigned to Orientation only.

Job Club

Activity where participants learn how to search for employment.

Self-Initiated Program (SIP)

An activity where the participants self-enroll in school prior to entering the GAIN Program.

Requirements

All participants referred to Job Club are required to participate in the Orientation activity (day one of Job Club), except those participants who have completed Orientation within the last 12 months.

Orientation

Participants may be assigned to Orientation as a stand-alone activity only when they do not need to attend Job Club.  Participants in a SIP, or participants returning after a 12-month absence from GAIN, fall into this category.  Orientation is to be opened by selecting the ORI activity in LRS.  The GSW will need to indicate on the GN 6006- Service Provider Referral, that the participant is being referred to Orientation only.
