The GED activity is available to START participants who do not have a GED, High School Diploma (HSD), or High School Equivalency Certificate (HiSEC).
START participants can enroll in GED as their primary activity. Participants must be assigned to concurrent activities if the activity does not provide 20 hours of class activity per week. Combined START activities must provide at least 20 hours of approved START participation per week.
The GED activity was designed to assist participants who do not have an HSD, GED, OR HiSEC with an opportunity to earn a high school equivalency certificate while enrolled in the START Program.
Most employers require, at a minimum, that potential candidates possess a high school diploma or equivalent to qualify for job openings. In addition, a candidate's education level is usually a factor that often affects promotional opportunities and salary ranges.
General Education Development (GED)
A set of five exams that determines whether the test-taker has a high school graduate's level of knowledge.
Participants must not have previously obtained a high school diploma or its equivalent.
