Supervised Job Search
Los Angeles County GAIN Program provides Job Search for two (2) to four (4) weeks duration to assist GAIN and Refugee Employment Program participants with job search. The ultimate goal is to assist participants to attain living wage employment. Job Search serves English, Spanish, and Non-English or Non-Spanish-speaking participants.
Services provided under Supervised Job Search are similar to the services provided during the second and third weeks of Focus 360. This activity is conducted only in-person. Participants will continue to receive job preparation services from the facilitators while resuming their job search. This activity is for participants who are job ready, able to complete job search without the need for an intensive one-on-one assistance from the facilitators.
Participants can be referred to Supervised Job Search when it is specified as an activity in a participant’s employment plan. Supervised Job Search may be assigned as a full-time activity or a concurrent activity on a part-time basis with another GAIN activity or part-time employment. The schedule for Supervised Job Search is arranged around the participant’s current part-time job or education activity.
Participants can also be assigned to Supervised Job Search when activities included in their employment plan are not immediately available.
Appointments for Supervised Job Search should only be made if the participant needs ten hours or more per week to meet their work participation requirements. Participants needing less than ten hours per week of participation should be referred to In-House Job Search.
Re-Focus Job Search
Re-Focus Job Search builds on job preparation and search strategies established during Focus 360. It reexamines customers' previous job search efforts to highlight strengths, identity areas of improvement, and informs them of alternative educational options for skill attainment that will increase employability in the labor market. In addition, this activity also offers life skills workshops that provide participants with the tools necessary to handle the stress and demands of managing work and daily life.
Re-Focus Job Search is for participants who completed Focus 360/Flex Focus 360 within the last two years or completed a Transitional Subsidized Employment (TSE) assignment without obtaining employment. However, if a TSE participant bypassed Focus 360, they should be referred to complete Focus 360 before attending Re-Focus Job Search. The activity is conducted only in-person and in a smaller classroom size of 15 participants or less. This allows facilitators to provide more one-on-one support to participants and assist them with their job search plan. Participants can attend Re-Focus Job Search as many times as needed until employment is obtained.
GAIN is Los Angeles County’s WtW Program. Job readiness or job search activities can be assigned for two to four consecutive weeks. The goal is to assist participants with finding a job that will lead them to self-sufficiency.
