Policy

Flex Focus 360, is a four-week supervised job search activity. It may be assigned concurrently on a part-time basis with another Greater Avenues for Independence (GAIN) activity or to supplement a participant’s part-time employment, education, or other activity. Flex Focus 360 is most commonly assigned when participants work or attend an educational program less than their required 20/30/35 hours per week. In addition, Flex Focus 360 may be assigned in a two-parent household when one parent is participating in employment, education, or other activity for less than the required 35 hours per week and the other parent wishes to participate to supplement hours of participation. The schedule for Flex Focus 360 is arranged around the participant’s current part-time job or education activity. Flex Focus 360 serves English, Spanish, and Non-English or Non-Spanish-speaking participants.

Flex Focus 360 participants do not attend Orientation. They are scheduled at either 9:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. Their individualized schedule is determined on the day of their enrollment; it is customized to fit their existing participation hours. Participants in Flex Focus 360 get individualized attention. They work on their resumes and get assistance with filling out applications. One-on-one time with a facilitator prepares participants to initiate their job search right away.

Appointments for Flex Focus 360 should only be made for participants who need ten hours or more to meet their work participation requirement. If a participant requires less than ten hours, refer the participant to In-House Job Search. Participants returning to Flex Focus 360 after a break in their assigned activity should be referred to start on Monday of the week they were dropped, as long as it is within one year.

Participants must complete the fourth week of job search to successfully complete the class. As a rule, participants do not attend Vocational Assessment at the end of the activity  unless a GAIN Services Worker (GSW)/Contracted Case Manager (CCM) specifically requests an assessment. Most participants in Flex Focus 360 are in another post-assessment activity and have most likely already had a vocational assessment.

Background

GAIN is Los Angeles County’s WtW Program. Flex Focus 360 is GAIN’s job readiness program.
