Former Transitional Subsidized Employment (TSE) participants who secure unsubsidized employment within nine months after the end of their TSE activity are eligible for a one-time monetary Work Support Allowance. To qualify, they must remain employed for at least 30 days and provide verification of their employment.
Participants will receive a one-time allowance of $150 for full-time unsubsidized employment (at least 30 hours per week) and $100 for part-time unsubsidized employment (20-29 hours per week).
Many participants fail to report their unsubsidized employment following their participation in TSE and discontinuance from CalWORKs assistance. In an effort to address the ongoing challenge of receiving employment information from participants who attain unsubsidized employment subsequent to TSE participation, a one-time monetary allowance is issued to each participant whose unsubsidized employment is verified. The issuance also helps participants with their work-related needs as they begin unsubsidized employment.

The participant has the option to receive the Work Support Allowance via direct deposit. To initiate a request for direct deposit, the participant completes SBWIB's Direct Deposit Enrollment Form. Alternatively, participants have the option to pick up the allowance in person at the designated American Job Centers of California (AJCC), Community-Based Organization (CBO), or GAIN Region assigned during their TSE activity, or at the SBWIB administrative office. Participants who are unable to pick up the allowance in person may designate someone to pick up the allowance on their behalf by completing SBWIB's Authorization To Pick-Up Check Form.
