Revision of existing policy and/or form(s)
What changed?
To inform staff about the sunset of the Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) Program, effective July 1, 2024.
Note: Changes are shown highlighted in grey throughout the document.
Effective July 1, 2024, the CHDP Program was suspended. As a result, Eligibility staff no longer need to explain the CHDP Program, offer and trigger a CHDP referral within CalSAWS, or reference information about the CHDP Program within the case Journal page.
The CHDP Program was established by Assembly Bill 2068 (Chapter 1069, Statutes of 1973) which provided preventive health, vision, dental screens and care coordination to children and youth under the age of 21 who were enrolled in Fee-For-Service Medi-Cal. The CHDP Program was locally administered at the County level through annual allocations from the Department of Health Care Services.
Previously, in accordance with Federal Register CFR 42, Part 441, Eligibility staff had to inform applicants/participants about medical and dental services available through the CHDP Program at application, Renewal, or upon request by providing them with the PUB 183 brochure, CHDP Program – Medical and Dental Health Check-Ups.
The Department of Health Care Services released ACWDL I 24-09 on June 21, 2024, to inform counties that the CHDP Program would sunset effective July 1, 2024, due to the passage of Senate Bill 184 (Chapter 47, Statutes of 2022) which outlined that CHDP activities were transitioned to other Medi-Cal delivery systems of services.
